My Photo

Biography

I am an artist making my home in a small rural community in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I paint on canvas and wood. I share my writing in publications and Spoken Word nights at the local cafe in town. I love to walk high on stilts as the Blue Fairy at local music & art festivals. I make one-of-a-kind handpainted & gem inlaid furniture art with my partner Chris. I'm a bellydancer and performer with Rhythm Fire Dance Company.

I travel whenever I can in the States and abroad (most recently Mexico, Laos, Guatemala). I'm passionate about nature and culture in all its resplendent variety. I try to follow my bliss, to act from impulse that comes from within, to move from a place of inspiration (not obligation). I love my life and i know i'm creating it all. More and more I'm proud of my golden outpourings.

Artist's Bio:
I was born in Palo Alto, California, spent half my childhood near New York City, and the other half in England, Boston, upstate New York, Israel, England, and South Africa. My mother is an artist and I grew up in a house that was a showcase for paintings, prints, sculpture, and fine crafts.

In college, and for years afterward, my art was on the back burner while I worked for political causes and non-profit organizations. In San Fracisco, I began painting as a healing practice.

After a number of years in the Bay Area, I decided that urban living was no longer for me. I was led to a small community in the Blue Ridge where I now live very happily surrounded by friends, trees, birds, and deer. The beauty of the Mountains, the clean air, the down-to-earth loving people that surround me, the many artists and craftspeople -- all inspire me and my art greatly.

For the last six years, I have been painting in acrylics, and experimenting with various techniques. My painting is evolving over the years of focus.

Many say that my pieces make them happy. My paintings are known for their bold, glowing colors, highly textured and layered backgrounds, and striking symbolic images. Those with innocence in their hearts respond strongly to my work.

I create art intuitively, allowing impulses to lead me, and I'm often in awe and appreciation of the ideas that flow through me from greater consciousness. The manifested pieces illuminate and guide me to the next level of opening and growth. I feel myself to be a student and artist of life. Life inspires my art and my art inspires my living and loving.

Artist's Statement:
I love painting
I adore laying colors down --
passionate purple, soft peach,
twilight blue, radiant pink,
I love playing with forms and figures,
shapes and squiggles. I paint intuitively
I allow creative life force, source energy, all-that-is
to flow through me. When I am the most non-resistant,
the energy soars through me and I feel wildly alive, on fire.
I move quickly. I use all my brushes, many of my paints,
whatever's on hand, including my fingers. I feel myself to be a
channel. images come to me, many of which don't seem to
make sense, or that I don't consciously understand. I try to
honor all of the impulses, to faithfully put down on paper
what is asking for expression. Often, if there is a central
or dominant figure in a painting, I ask her/him what it wants.
Sometimes I start with an idea; usually I just allow myself to be
led. It is an exhilarating process. creative expression in
general, and painting in particular for me, is an amazing,
wondrous, magnificent way that divine energy is drawn to
and through me. It inspires me to love myself, my creativity,
the painting, and life itself. When I paint,
I fall in love over and over. I feel joy. I am joy.
I remember why I'm here -- which is to play,
to enjoy, to experience each
moment freshly and fully.
I feel blessed. I have a desire
that those who view my art
will be inspired to express
who you are in
your own
unique &
wonderful
way.
